Connecting Nigerian & Local Artists with International Art Lovers
KOJO ART X serves as a premier platform connecting Nigeria's finest artists with art lovers across the UK,Ireland and India. Each piece in our collection reflects the rich cultural heritage and vibrant creativity of Nigerian art, curated for global appreciation. We now provide the same services to local artists in Northern Ireland.
Our Story
We initially started by purchasing artwork from emerging artists in Nigeria with the hope of selling the artworks in the UK. We now aim to be a one-stop shop for all artists (local as well as Nigerian) who want to grow and gain exposure across the UK, Ireland and India.
Our Mission
To promote Nigerian art internationally by facilitating exhibitions, fostering artist growth, and making exceptional artworks accessible to collectors, designers, and commercial spaces worldwide.
Our Team
We are a pair of art lovers who have a strong connection to Nigeria. Kaustav grew up in Lagos, while Joanne grew up in Northern Ireland and moved to Lagos in 2015. We met in Lagos in 2016 and bonded over a shared appreciation of art and travel. Our first date was visiting the Lagos Art X exhibition.
Kaustav grew up in a family of art enthusiasts, where his house was filled with paintings and crafts collected by his parents, who had lived in various parts of the world before settling in Lagos. Joanne studied art up to A-Level and continued to enjoy visiting galleries and collecting artworks on her travels while teaching internationally.
We moved back to Belfast in 2021. After a period of living out of backpacks and travelling South America, we were grateful to have a blank canvas to call our own. We set about decorating our house with the pieces we had collected from around the world and Ireland. Visitors to our home would often comment on the uniqueness of our collection. A seed was sown. What if we could connect people with distinctive art, unlike the generic prints offered in ‘home decor’ shops?
Living in Nigeria and exploring the art scene there allowed us to network with creatives such as Sola Otori, our long-time friend and now Kojo Art X’s Creative Director. Sola is based in Lagos. His expertise in the Nigerian Art scene has been a pivotal factor in Kojo Art X achieving recognition in such a short time.
